Vessel Examinations Vessel Safety Check InfoFSO-VE: Anthony Tramutolo
What is a Vessel Safety Check A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a courtesy examination (formerly known as
Courtesy Marine Examinations or CMEs) of your boat (or vessel) to verify
the presence and condition of certain Safety Equipment required by State
and Federal regulations. The Vessel Examiner (VE) is a trained specialist
and is a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. The VE will also make certain
recommendations and discuss certain safety issues that will make you a safer
boater.
This is not boarding or a law enforcement issue. No citations will be given
as a result of this encounter. The VE will supply you with a copy of the evaluation
so that you may follow some of the suggestions given. Vessels that pass will be
able to display the distinctive VSC decal. This does not exempt you from law
enforcement boarding, but you can be prepared to make this a positive encounter.
ALL boaters (power, sail, PWC, RHI, canoe, kayak) are invited and encouraged to have a VSC performed on their boat(s). For information on Vessel Safety Checks, please contact , FSO-VE Anthony Tramutolo You may also contact any of the following U.S.C.G.
